September Speakers

Dan Downey
Dan Downey is running for the California State Assembly. Dan is not a politician. But he is running to make sure that our tax dollars have someone watching over them and that our money is spent wisely. He sees the California dream fading away and can't just sit on the sideline anymore watching California flush our money down the drain. As a financial advisor, Dan knows we could be spending our tax dollars more efficiently. For too long, California has been on the wrong track. As an MBA-trained investor, Dan Downey will bring the results oriented approach that our State Legislature need. Dan knows that we must restore balance in the California Legislature!

Susan Shelly
Susan Shelly has been an opinion columnist for the papers of the Southern CA News Group since 2014, writing on local, state and national issues. Her columns have won an enthusiastic following for the deep research and clear thinking she brings to complex problems. Susan was a candidate for the CA Assembly in west San Fernando Valley, an endeavor that brought her into contact with many taxpayers and California businesses at the breaking point due to high costs and challenges imposed by government policies. She stayed active in public affairs, becoming the president of Valley VOTE, a non-partisan civic organization that seeks to inform communities about important issues, and the VP of Communications for the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, the most influential taxpayer advocacy group in California.

Matt Gunderson
Sitting on the sidelines isn’t Matt Gunderson's style. That's why he's running for State Senator in District 38. California needs officeholders with real-world experience who aren’t afraid to say what they mean and act on it. In the State Senate, Matt will be a bipartisan problem solver, working with everyone to solve the challenges of our time including affordability, homelessness, crime, ensuring local control and maintaining our quality of life.

Corey Gustafson
Corey Gustafson is a conservative businessman, university lecturer and native San Diegan who is running for Congress to restore common-sense representation to the 50th Congressional district. Too much power and influence have shifted to Washington D.C. and Corey will redirect it back to where it belongs- with the people of San Diego. He believes that government works best when individuals are empowered in their own lives. Providing opportunity to all San Diegans will be Corey’s mission in Washington D.C.
